Business of Our Own - Students create their own businesses April 16th - April 15th Week Be ready for your relaxation activity presentation on Wednesday if you have not gone. Today - Decision making. Some discussion questions with the teacher 1. Watch the teenage brain video...it is from the perspective of parents understanding the teenage brain. Discuss. 2. see slide 7 and 9 to learn what kind of decision maker you are and the process for good decision making. SLIDE SHARE 3. Do this group activity. Your teacher will give you one scenario per group of 4. Go through the process to see what you would do. decision_making_scenarios.pdf - what would you do. SHARE OUT - Also, some time to share out when you had to make a difficult decision, what it was and how you decided. If you feel comfortable. 4. We will first understand stress, see how it is destructive and useful, What is stress? (see side) How important is our view of stress? (see side) Take a nice relaxing walk in the sun! Come back and work on the sheet! COMPLETE TO HERE TUESDAY - students keep sheets in binders. c. and how to discharge negative stress. - Below are some valuable resources. You are to choose 1 in a group of 4 and execute it. Create a theme - Pokeman character? Spend some time gathering supplies, planning out how to introduce it, and practicing leading it. Limit it to between 8 and 12 minutes, depending on the activity and how long it takes to get into it. It can be longer if needed. Before SPRING BREAK - Enjoy! On the side of each 1 hour box add the approximate time you were on some sort of screen/device/phone. Be diligent, do not be general but specific. This is ongoing over the next week as you try and stay on track with what is important. 1) Resumes - In Blueprint Work/Resumes - use the resume builder to 1) create a generic resume and then 2) find a job under Work/job postings and custom design a resume for an entry level position you could do before you turn 18. You can project ahead a bit, but not too far. Write a GREAT OBJECTIVE - See HOW - Note you can export these and touch up some details, sections etc. Upload resumes into MY CAREERS PORTFOLIO. Transferrable skills (see the side)- having explored some of your learning styles and multiple intelligences, along with some job interests, it is time to value yourself. You have many skills. Life, hobbies, school, reading, teams, sports, etc. teach you many things. These are transferrable skills, skills that can be used in many areas of your life. What skills do you have! Fill out digitally and upload into MY CAREERS portfolio - Don't forget reflection questions! If time, try the next two questionnaires, personality and Interests, then add 2 hobbies to your portfolio. Til Feb 18th 1) Tidy up Shoot the Chute Reflection/Minds On and Multiple intelligences - See video on Multiple intelligences - side. On final page, write what you notice about the jobs - duties, school, things you connect with, pay, etc. (SUBMIT) 2) Set 2 Smart Goals - watch the THREE (3) videos on the top on the side, in the order presented. Use WORKSHEET A - GOALS to understand goal setting and wr_smart_goals_printable_fillable_worksheet.pdf to establish some for yourself. Thurs/Friday Put this information in under Home/goals in MyBlueprint. Type it out after completing the worksheet. It won't hurt to revisit it in several different ways (writing, typing) Feb 6th/ 7th - SHOOT THE CHUTE REFLECTION (submit) Friday, Feb 1st/Monday 4th/Tues 5th Monday block 5 split in 2 groups for computers 1) Giant Maze - who can make it to the end in 10 minutes? ($5 ecobucks for each person who finishes in 10 minutes. What skills did you require to do this? 2) Begin the digital component of MyBlueprint part of the worksheets. (Minds On and Multiple intelligences) Follow the directions on the worksheet carefully. Submit work (WITH NAME ON IT) into the bin on desk when done. Wed/Thurs 30th (no Computers required) 1) get a pet (answer too!) - being a problem solver - warm-up (hard copy distributed - working in pairs -$5 to every person who can get it in 5 minutes or less - online Timer- please use!) (explain that if it is a no then it gets an X and a yes gets a dot. Only one row or column can have a dot!) 2) 2 metaphor challenges - What is a metaphor you ask...Watch - Extended Metaphor video. Clarify understanding. First Challenge - Monkey Maze challenge - complete the maze in partners - 1 pencil - Every 30 seconds switch people (online Timer- please use!) $5 for complete ($20 first place and $10 for 2nd) Write your first extended metaphor as a class (like in the video) Start with the Line - Careers are .... (and together as a class write your own extended metaphors based on your experience on the challenge) Finding your career is solving a maze...(kids can sketch out ideas if done early) Second Challenge - Word Search - (online Timer x 2 for 10 minutes- please use!) $5 for complete ($20 first place and $10 for 2nd) Write the 2nd Poem Finding your career passion is a word search... (3 or 4 ideas is enough) 3) Learning Styles Video to play - Think about how you learn is the focus of the next few classes. Complete Minds On after the video. JUST THE FIRST PAGE THEN KEEP IT. Once done, they can pick up the Learning styles questionnaire sheet Please see FRIDAY FOLDER AND USE (includes an end tally and reflection they must do!) For both of these, we will not go on the computers yet, next day tell them for the digital component. Choose which one you connect with. Informal sharing next class. Analyze the lyrics and try and answer the following questions the best you can: (WORK IN PAIRS - 1 computer each, use headphones if you can) 1. What decisions are people facing? Will it/they have negative consequences or positive ones? Both? 2. What would have been the opposite alternative to what they did? Possible outcomes? 3. Any idea what type of decision maker this is, if applicable? (see slideshare slide 9 below) 4. What would you do in the situation? All good skills you can use in your career. You will have 45 minutes to complete it to get a treat. Work in groups of 2-3. If you are done early and want to try another, you must be done all your work including reflections, occupation choices (with reflections), Who am I, Life Map, and your Goals. - Students need to have the 3 activities below done and posted - We will be completing "Where I come from" or "Who Am I" this week. - Next week, we will do a fun interactive team building game. Similar learning styles will be placed together to "magnify" their talents, and stretches. - NEXT ACTIVITY TO START - LIFE MAP - worksheets provided doc pdf - Final format from storyboard style to film, graphs to an actual life map or 3-D diaorama map, or a prezi. - We will talk about resilience and the benefit of struggle as a teacher. Checklist of where you should be by Sept 25th 1) Shoot the Chute Activity Reflection see myBlueprint/home/classes/activity is a reflection. Fill it out (review documents and question sheet from class), write in a paragraph if possible, if that is difficult, upload a picture of the answers or a document. When prompted for a portfolio, make and save it under "Reflections" 2) Learning styles survey under myBlueprint/Who am I and then reflect on the back of the learning styles hardcopy sheet around study tips and your different learning types. 3) Multiple intelligences and occupations search THEN Week of 24th of September - to complete by OCT 2. WHERE I COME FROM and PERSONAL INTERESTS who_am_i_rubric.docx Prelude: Understanding where we are going requires an understanding of what has influenced us, where our passions lie and what our values and talents are. This activity explores you as a person and what has impacted your view of the world and what you value in it. CHOOSE 1 option that speaks to you and use the avenue to convey who you area and why. Note, be aware that some are simple and require much less creativity and effort and will be evaluated as such. Option 1 - Poem form of "Where I Come From" georgeellalyon - section 3 of this is the poem portion, maybe other ideas here can help as well. Mr. Wardman's personal exemplar. Another blog exemplar - Elizabeth Brewster Option 2 - Write a song (advanced) if you are musical on the theme of "who I am or Where I come from) - See side for example. Option 3 - Who am I write - a simple write exploring what makes you tick. Mr. Wardman Exemplar Option 4 - Create a Graphic Design with your name and interests. Artistry is important here. See side. Option 5 - Create a collage using magazine photos - see side Option 6 - Choose your own method, but have it approved first.
